After seeing Ali MacGraw play a smoldering bitch in heat, how could any danger-loving thrill seeker be satisfied with a secure and predictable nice girl? Born in Pound Ride, New York, to a family of commercial artists, Ali spent six years working as a photographic assistant at Harper’s Bazaar and later worked as a model at Vogue. This bad girl busted out of glossy pages and made her way to commercials and, eventually, to Hollywood. Even in her sweetest role, that of fey Jenny opposite Ryan O’Neal in Love Story (1970), Ali was foul-mouthed and prone to disturbing emotional outbursts. But imagine the make-up sex! MacGraw rode her buns to success, saying, “Hello, butt shot!” in Goodbye, Columbus (1969) not once, but twice. The Getaway (1972) presented a profile in nipples, and Ali left the set with her marriage to super-producer Robert Evans in tatters and new beau and co-star Steve McQueen on her wing. In Just Tell Me What You Want (1980), she finally showed her full rack while wearing a shower cap. The simpering and scintillating brunette suffered a career lacuna while caring for an ailing McQueen. She has since appeared on the soap opera series Dynasty (1985), in the experimental drama Glam (1997), in the documentary about Bruce Vilanch Get Bruce (1999), and in the yoga video Ali MacGraw Yoga Mind and Body (2014). Vanity Fair even credited Ali with yoga’s rise in popularity in the U.S.! We haven’t seen much of Ali in recent years, but at least we know she’s staying flexible!
