If eccentricity were an industry, the family of unconventionally cute Rainbow Phoenix would be the Rockefellers of odd characterization. The hottest Phoenix this side of Arizona, as the lesser-known sibling of dynastic actors River, Joaquin, Summer, and Liberty Phoenix, Rainbow’s moniker might seem like a bit of a hippie-dippy handle, but it’s not as zany as her real name: Rain Joan of Arc Phoenix. Although she grew up singing with River as a warm up act for the show Real Kids, like her child star siblings, Rainbow got bit by the acting bug at a young age: making her television debut as a thirteen year old on an episode of Amazing Stories. She wouldn’t show off her amazing body until after she’d shown up on an episode of Family Ties and appeared in the rich girl gets turned into a maid comedy Maid to Order (1987), but once she did, plenty of young women realized they’d be flying rainbow flags in the future. Yes, in the 1994 oddball flick Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1993) we got to see the pot of gold between Rainbow’s legs. Sure, our blue balls would probably have been best taken care of by seeing her ride some lucky man in cowgirl, but we were happy to watch her take her pants off and flash some burnished pubes as part of a no pants posse of cowgirls. Rainbow got that private part producing role after meeting Gus Van Sant on the set of My Own Private Idaho (1991), since her and River were in a band at the time. Once River died, Rainbow started performing with R.E.M and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, then formed a couple of her own bands but never fully abandoning acting. Rainbow has been in hit movies like O (2001) and Hitch (2005), as well as lesser known stuff like Forever (2015) and the Olivia Munn starring Justine Bateman directed flick Violet (2021). Man, we just want to bate, but Rainbow won’t do any more nudity. Oh well, no rain, no Rainbows!
