Red-haired and far from ruthless, Anita Morris gained fame and notoriety for being a little giggly and a whole lot seductive. In 1975, one of her first major movies was as May Smith and Linda Jo in the pants-popping feature The Happy Hooker (1975) starring Lynn Redgrave. The character is one of the titled gals, and lets her customer create a whipped-cream bikini he then sprays off with champagne, revealing a very pretty set of twins. From there, the North Carolina native appeared in a number of big-screen flicks, including The Hotel New Hampshire (1984) as Ronda Ray with Rob Lowe and Jodie Foster, as Dido Lament in Absolute Beginners(1986) with David Bowie, Carol in Ruthless People (1986) with Bette Midler and Danny DeVito, Dr. Jane Buchanan in Martians Go Home (1989) with Randy Quaid, Florence in Off and Running (1991) with Cyndi Lauper, and Claudette Katsenback in Radioland Murders (1994) with a star-studded cast that included Ned Beatty, George Burns, and Michael McKean. Anita was also a successful stage actress, and being friends with famed choreographer Tommy Tune, he often used her in many of his projects including The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the musical Nine. She received a Best Featured Actress Tony Award nomination for her sensual performance as Carla in Nine, opposite Raul Julia. The star was scheduled to perform the song “Call From the Vatican” from the musical on the Tony Awards broadcast in 1982, dressed in the black-lace body stocking she wore on stage, but CBS censors decided the whole act was too risqué and banished it from the program. Red hot and hotly missed, Anita passed away in 1994 at the age of 50.
