Blonde, adventurous and born into a Hollywood family (papa was The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) screenwriter George Axelrod), it was only natural that Nina Axelrod should take a shot at movie stardom. Nina’s high, apple-round cheekbones, fine aristocratic nose, firm chin and saucy, expressive mouth wrapped in a pair of highly mobile, juicy lips must have given the budding actress extra confidence that superstardom waited just around the next audition. When Nina’s debut in the made-for-TV movie Long Journey Back (1978) failed to result in top billing across from John Travolta, the determined lass pulled out her trump cards–a pair of free-floating breast bulbs that sway down and up and culminate in twin erectile nipple points. These doubled aces are unsleeved in a pair of paradisiacal Motel Hell (1980) moments: two fleeting bits of time in which Nina became a star for the ages. Nina kept acting; starring in the horror flick Cross Country (1983) and taking a bit role in the Sly Stallone classic Cobra (1986). Her last acting role came in Critters 3 (1991), but by this point Nina had already found a new Hollywood career. After working in the casting department of huge movies like Firestarter (1984) and Blue Velvet (1986), Nina worked her way up to full on casting director of movies like the aforementioned Critters 3 (1991), Netherbeast Incorporated (2007) and The Graves (2009). She was almost cast as Rachel in Blade Runner (1982), a screentest of which can be seen as an extra in one of the special edition DVDs. She may always wonder what could have been, but we’ll always wonder why she stopped showing the wonderful body that had us polishing our rod to Nina Axelrod.
