Born in Vancouver but educated in Hong Kong, Valerie took second place in the “Miss Hong Kong” pageant back in 1991, then got her law degree before opting to disrobe rather than wear a judge’s robe and launching her career as a model and actress. Her first big screen appearance was in He’s Not Heavy, He’s My Father (1993), but her breakout role was breaking Tony Leung’s heart in Chungking Express (1994).
