Groupie’s groupie Pamela Des Barres made her name in the heady days of late-1960s rock music by making (and getting heady with) the biggest names in late-1960s rock music. After scoring a gig as the nanny of Frank Zappa’s famously odd-named brood, Pamela’s mustachioed crackpot boss made her the centerpiece of his all-female pop experiment The GTO’s (Girls Together Outrageously). Pam’s eclectic (and electric) glam-slamming about the glitter-era Sunset-Strip led to her being squired about by the saturnine, arena-packingly regal r-&-r likes of Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Alice Cooper, Keith Moon and numerous other hip-swinging, fist-pumping, Rolling–Stone-cover-adorning notables. Ultimately, Pam married (and later divorced) heavy metal crooner Michael Des Barres and turned her adventures in the bedrooms and backstage areas of rockdom’s hottest and horniest into the best-selling 1987 memoir, Confessions of a Groupie: I’m With the Band. On the big screen, Pam bared her adorable tweeters (but no woofer) as a dancing girl in the blaxploitation face-stomper Slaughter’s Big Rip-Off (1973). The following year, she played “Amy Kaslo #1” on the TV soap Search for Tomorrow. Pam will always be #1 in the hearts (and even harder places) of Classic Rockers and their generations of audiences who salivate at the prospect of someday sniffing their idols’ facial hair. In the years since Pamela’s flesh-tastic fare she has continued to work occasionally in showbiz, if only in TV soaps like The Young and the Restless where she plays the role of Amy, as well as Spent Saints & Other Stories as “Party Guest”.
