Let us give you the lowdown on the actress, writer and legendary director Barbara Loden. Barbara got into show business by showing as a pin-up model in various magazine spreads in the early ’50s, in New York City. She studied at The Actor’s Studio, hit Old Broadway, and was a recurring guest who would get sawed in half and hit in the face by pies on The Ernie Kovacs Show. This all happened before Barbara was discovered by legendary filmmaker Elia Kazan, whom she later married. He directed her as Warren Beatty’s wanton sister, alongside Natalie Wood in Splendor in the Grass (1961). But the blonde was fated for bigger things, like giving us wood, and having us want to batey. After taking home the 1964 Tony Award for Best Actress for her work as a pseudo Marilyn Monroe in Arthur Miller‘s After the Fall, the nudity train got chuggin with Fade-In (1968), where we get a peek at her rack in soft focus. You’ll get hard, though. It continued with a caboose shot in Wanda (1971), which she directed herself. On top of her fine ass she showed off some side breast. The movie, about a divorcee in a Pennsylvania coal mining town who ends up an accomplice to bank robbery, while not especially appreciated at the time has gone on to be selected for preservation by the USA’s National Film Registry and the Library of Congress. In fact, with just the one directing credit to her name Loden has still been compared to John Cassavetes and made her the subject of the documentary I am Wanda (1980). Unfortunately, Barbara Loden would ultimately succumb to a battle with breast cancer in 1980, leaving behind a legacy of cinematic innovation and erotic stimulation.
