Brown-eyed R&B chanteuse Anita Baker’s first album, The Songstress, was released in 1983, catapulting her into near-instant celebrity. Into the early ’90s, Anita was a chart-topper on the R&B and soul charts, but family tragedies and several high-profile legal disputes had a negative impact on her career for the next ten years. At the Grammy awards, however, Anita has been consistently honored, with her comeback album, My Everything, garnering a nomination for Best Rhythm & Blues Album in 2005.
