Based on Margaret Atwood’s chilling novel, The Handmaid’s Tale is about the US after a religious, traditionalist group called the Sons of Jacob stage a coup to seize control. The country has been ravaged by pollution and infertility, and now the remaining fertile women have been seized to service high-up men and their barren wives. They are slaves – even given new names – who are only there to conceive for the couple, while many low-status men are killed and kids seized as government property.
